Caregiver Training

Lori has provided regular muscular strength exercises for my resident which has enabled them to walk around the neighborhood a few times weekly and enjoy being outdoors.

Lori is simply wonderful. I can say with confidence that she is one of the most knowledgeable and dedicated physical therapists my mom have ever worked with. She communicates everything clearly.

Lori has been a true God-send for me and my folks. We found her online in a search to find at-home Physical Therapy for my mom to augment the PT she would receive from Home Health. Mom is super committed to a full recovery and always wants to go the extra mile to maximize her healing. We discovered right away that Lori was like minded and equally committed to helping mom gain back as much mobility and strength as possible. Lori has a calming presence and confident manner that helps guide the entire family to reach an effective healing solution to whatever malady we’re facing. Mom has lost strength and mobility from several unrelated hospital visits and Lori is always the first call to start the healing process at home. I am 100% convinced mom would not be in as good of a place as she is right now if we hadn’t been for Lori’s informed guidance and expertise!

“Lori went through transfers with a client from a hospital bed to a wheelchair. We had “volunteers” to be the “client.” She used “the board” for when a client can’t stand on their own- onto the wheelchair and then back onto the bed. She showed us the proper way to stand when assisting the client from “sit-to-stand” and how to adjust the hospital bed so that it is at the proper height for the caregiver.

The caregivers had all sorts of questions and stories from their own experiences. It was amazing to have a room filled with both valuable experience and lessons learned from past challenges!

“I had the pleasure of experiencing Lori Nissen’s skills and abilities when she instructed an enrichment class for our caregivers at Visiting Angels. Lori was referred to me by Bristol Hospice and she came highly recommended.

The class Lori led was in Advanced Transfers, which is vital to the safety needs of both our caregivers and our clients…the caregivers LOVED her and responded with great interest. The class was interactive and allowed the caregivers to physically learn how to keep themselves and their clients safe when transferring in the home. Lori designed and offered handouts also. The class was so well received that Lori and I will be offering another class in February 2025, with other classes to follow.

Because Lori works in the homes of her clients, she sees the great need for safety training. She has contacted me with ideas she can add to the original class that will benefit our caregivers even further, this makes Lori particularly valuable to Visiting Angels. I would recommend Lori’s skills and teaching to anyone wanting to learn from a gifted and knowledgeable professional.
